Flowers That Bloom During The Summer Months

Summer is most people's favourite season.  No more thick, heavy clothes, longer days and a whole lot more fun and activities too.  Your garden is probably also looking a lot more attractive now and shopping at your local or online florist is a breeze with so many options to choose from.  Whether you want to send flowers to somebody special or buy some for your own home, you won't be left wanting during these hot months!

Summer Flowers Roses

A classic favourite of all time, the rose, is in season.  Sure they are available from your florist throughout the year but they are only really in season during the summer months.  This means that if you have roses planted in your garden, now is when you will see them burst into blooming action.  You will probably also notice a price change at your florist because seasonal flowers are usually cheaper than those imported or grown in artificial conditions.  If you are all about organic products, then now is also the time when you will be able to get your hands on some organic roses.

Rose And Lily Bouquet

Lilies are also a very popular flower.  They can be grouped with other blooms or simply arranged on their own.  Calla lilies, for instance, look great even as a single stem while stargazer lily arrangements look better when there are at least five stems in a vase.  During summer both callas and stargazers are in season as well as casa blanca and gloriosa lilies.  So, take your pick!

When it comes to filler flowers, there is none more popular than baby's breath.  As luck would have it, they are in season during summer and autumn.  When the weather starts to get really chilly, that's when these little beauties will stop blooming.

For really bright summer arrangements, flowers such as amaranthus, cockscomb and birds of paradise are all in season for the duration of summer.  If your garden is stepping out and showing off some bold colours, this certainly calls for you to do the same with the kinds of bouquets you use to decorate your home.

Many people enjoy creating a bouquet that resembles more a field of wild flowers as opposed to a carefully made arrangement.  If this is you, then take advantage of the cosmos flower for this.  Available in a number of colours that are just dying to be mixed together, these flowers do indeed grow in fields and they are perfect for achieving this look in your own home.

Other well-known favourites are also in season so you really can't go wrong.  These include delphiniums, dahlias, hydrangeas and chrysanthemums.  Between these four favourites and the rest of the flowers mentioned above, you are sure to find a bouquet that is perfect for you and your home.  Of course, there are so many other blooms available depending on your location.  The best thing you can do is take a look at an online florist or two as well as your local florist and get a good idea of the summer flowers available near you.

Caring For Silk Flowers

So many people have the misguided perception that silk flowers don't need any real care.  They believe that fresh cut flowers require quite a bit of care in order to last as long as possible but anything artificial such as plastic, paper or silk flowers can just be put on display and that's that.  Sure, when you order or send flowers, there are a number of things that your florist will tell you to do in order to keep them in shape.  Likewise, there are a number of steps that need to be followed in order to maintain the quality and appearance of your silk flowers.

The biggest problem that many people report regarding silk flowers is that it's "a pain" to clean them.  However, it's so simple if you just know how!  There are a number of easy ways in which you can keep your silk flowers clean and dust free.  Firstly, use a feather duster and gently brush over them at least once a week.  That way the dust does not have time to really attach itself to your flowers.  Admittedly, this is not an option for people who suffer from dust allergies and all you are really doing is flicking the dust back up into the air.  Which brings us to another method of cleaning, by compressed air.  Surely you are familiar with those spray cans of compressed air that many people use to clean electronic devices such as computer keyboards and such.  Well, these cans are also often used to clean silk flowers.  They will blow all that dust away in a flash.  Again, the problem is for those who suffer from severe dust allergies and this is just a more powerful way of forcing the dust back up into the air.

Dust clings nicely to moisture so, arguably the best way to rid your flowers and home of dust is with a liquid of some sort.  Now, when washing your silk flowers it's not as simple as tossing them in the washing machine!  You need to take extra special care and avoid chemicals and soaps.  Rather submerge your flowers gently in some cool water.  Avoid hot or warm water as this will damage the silk.

Once you have rinsed the dust off your silk flowers, it's time to let them dry.  Do NOT place them in the sun to dry!  Do not even place them in the sun when on display.  It is only natural that any fabric will fade from the effects of the sun so, by placing your silk flowers in the sun, you are causing them to lose their colour.  Be patient and let them dry at their on pace in a shady place.

When not on display, store your silk flowers in a sealed plastic bag or container so that no dust or moisture can get inside.  Keep them in a cool, dry place and out of the sun.

Tips For Sending An International Flower Delivery

The world has become such a small place.  With modern transport and travel methods as well as trade agreements and a vast improvement in the area of communications, you could be in London one day and Washington the next.  So many people travel all around the world for both business and personal reasons.  A lot of the times they find themselves out of town or even out of the country over an important period of time such as a loved one's birthday, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day and so on.  Our crazy lives even make us forget about these occasions until the last minute so how can you make sure that your partner isn't going to be upset with you for forgetting a certain special day?  Quite simply, an international flower delivery is sure to do the trick!  Not so sure about that sort of thing?  Well, for so many people these days, it's even easier than having to go to an actual flower shop!  Here are some tips for you to remember when sending flowers to an overseas location:

Firstly, do yourself a favour and make use of an online florist.  That is, unless you are happy with paying a really high phone bill and giving them your payment details over the phone.  You need to remember that international phone calls can often have a delay on them which makes communicating tough at the best of times.  A delay means that you talk and the person on the other end only hears you a number of seconds later.  This can cause you to talk over each other and things can get really confusing.  Also, depending on the country you want to send flowers to, there might be a language barrier.  Online florists have their websites based in a number of languages so you will find one that you are most familiar with.

When selecting an online florist, make sure that they deliver to the country you need to send flowers to and confirm any delivery fees.  Many online florists offer free flower delivery as well as same day delivery or next day flowers even if they are for international destinations.  When placing your order you will also need to make sure that they can make the flower delivery on the date you request.  Compare all these factors as well as prices and, only after you have taken all of these matters into consideration, then you should make your final decision.

Whatever you do, any time you order online, always make sure that the website has a secure payment system.  Don't take any chances!  Check their satisfaction policies just in case the bouquet arrives and it is not quite up to standard.  Make sure that the online florist you are using is willing to make it up to you in one way or another.

A Guide To Making Cheap Mother's Day Flowers Look Expensive

With all the financial challenges of life today, it's no wonder that people are looking for ways to make their cheap flower delivery look expensive. This is especially the case when it comes to sending flowers for Mother's Day.  You want your dear mother to feel special but, at the same time, you do not want to break the bank! The good news is that there are ways in which you can spruce up a seemingly ordinary flower arrangement and transform it into something even more elegant!

What you will need:
·         Your choice of Mother's Day flowers
·         Some foliage of your choice (foliage that will compliment your flowers)
·         Colourful ribbon
·         Colourful tissue paper
·         Any accessories you would like to use to personalize your bouquet

 Instructions:
·         The first step is probably the most important of all. You need to carefully select the kind of flowers you want to send. Do some research and find out which flowers are in season. They are bound to be the cheaper option. You should also select flowers that are still half closed so that you know that they will last longer. Choose some larger blooms as your focal flowers, add some slightly smaller mass flowers and then add filler flowers here and there.
·         After choosing your flowers, you will then need to select the type or types of greenery that you want to include. Lush green leaves can really make your bouquet look full and complete but be careful not to overcrowd your flowers with too much foliage. You want the greenery to compliment the flowers and not cover them up. Choose your foliage based on the type of flowers you include and make sure that the foliage not only adds fullness but texture as well.
·         Now is a great time to look at adding accessories or ornaments like little beetles or butterflies. Your florist could have some in stock or you could pick up something from your local crafts shop. This is not an absolute must but it will give your bouquet that little something special and the recipient will have something to keep forever even once the flowers perish.
·         Instead of using a vase, which can be rather pricey, you can make your bouquet look just as fancy without that additional expense. Besides, most of us have at least one or two vases at home anyway.  To decorate and cover the stems of your flowers, simply wrap them in some colourful tissue paper.  Make sure that you choose the right colour tissue paper to compliment the flowers in the bouquet.
·         Finally, it's time for the finishing touch. Place a ribbon around the stems in order to hold them together and keep the paper in place. If you really want to play it safe, you can secure the stems together with an elastic band before wrapping them in the tissue paper.
While it might be easy and convenient to order flowers online or from your local florist around the corner, arranging them yourself can help you save money while adding that personal touch all at the same time. You can gather even more ideas by having a quick look around at pictures of flower arrangements online. Take note of colour combinations and you will soon see which ones work well together and which ones do not. Remember to take your time and don't try to rush it. Some flowers are fairly delicate and need to be handled with care.

Keeping It Simple For Mother's Day

Each year seems to bring on a collection of celebrations that we often feel obligated to celebrate.  On top of everything else, we also feel the pressure to go all out and turn even the simplest occasion into the event of the century.  The costs tend to exceed your budget and leave you wondering how you are going to top it all next year.  For Mother's Day, your first instinct is most likely to send flowers.  Then you start to consider all sorts of additional gifts to go with the fresh flower delivery and possibly even a meal out.  With Mother's Day just around the corner, it's important to know that mothers value the little things over expensive gifts and here's how you can keep your Mother's Day simple and special.

An important trick when it comes to saving money is knowing where to spend and where not to spend.  Something as simple as Mother's Day flowers are an important part of your gift and a great way of spoiling mum.  Of course, you don't want to go for cheap flowers that just end up dying within a matter of days.  Spending a little bit more will allow your mother to enjoy her Mother's Day arrangement for that much longer and it will prove to be money well spent.

Another popular way of spoiling mum on this special day is to treat her to a meal that she does not have to prepare or clean up after.  Most of us tend to pick up the phone and make a reservation at a local restaurant like it's some kind of automatic reaction.  However, while you may end up spending more on fresh flowers for Mother's Day, you can actually save a fair amount by avoiding restaurants and expensive dining establishments.  Instead, why not prepare lunch or breakfast for mum yourself?  By now you should know all of her little favourites and you should be able to put together a delightful menu just for her.

Depending on the weather and personal preferences, you can choose to take mum out for a picnic, eat by the beach or enjoy the meal at her home or yours.  You could also buy all the ingredients for your meal and spend extra time with mum as you prepare her special meal for her in her own kitchen.  This can be tricky at times because she will most likely want to help you.  You will need to insist that she simply sits and keeps you company.  It's a great way of spending even more time with her on Mother's Day.

Along with your personally prepared meal and fresh flowers, you can also get mum a card and take the time to write a special message inside.  The flowers will brighten her home, the meal will satisfy her appetite, the card will act as a memento for years to come and spending time with you will be the best gift she could ever ask for.  If you want to host Mother's Day as a family event, you can make a guest list and get everyone to contribute by bringing along a dish for the table.  You can also put money together to buy an extra special gift for mum that, since you are all contributing towards, won't set you back financially.

DIY Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother's Day is the perfect occasion for us to get creative with our gift ideas.  Sure, choosing to Send Flowers For Mother's Day is traditional and very thoughtful but, how about creating something of your own to accompany the special bouquet?  Whether you are a craft specialist or a DIY disaster, there's guaranteed to be something you will be great at!

There are a number of flower themed gifts that you can make for Mother's Day.  These can either accompany your special flower delivery or be given instead of flowers if you are particularly strapped for cash.  The first way in which you can save money is by creating your very own flower arrangement from flowers in your garden.  Alternatively, you can pick flowers throughout the year and, press them.  Then, when Mother's Day arrives, you can use these perfectly pressed flowers to make your very own Mother's Day card, decorative place mats or perhaps even arrange them on a colourful background and have them framed.

It is important to remember that some flowers are suitable for pressing while others are better left to dry without pressing.  Again, throughout the year, you can gather and dry flowers to build up a collection. Store them in a cool, dry place just as you would pressed flowers.  This will help keep them in perfect condition for a fair amount of time.  When you have enough petals, you can go shopping for some essential oils and make your own potourri.  Remember, different essential oils have different health benefits and effects so find the ones that will suit mum best.  You don't need to stick to a single oil.  You can mix some together for a delightful blend.  There are various recipes available online if you need ideas.  Another great tip to remember is that rose petals make great potpouri.  They do take time to dry out but the really absorb the oil and last long too.

Another great option for all those mums with a sweet tooth is an edible arrangement.  An edible arrangement that you find at your local or online florist may consist of fruits or cleverly wrapped chocolates.  You don't need to feel limited by this and you can really let your imagination run wild.  Take your pick of cakes, biscuits or even brownies to make your own delicious arrangement.  You can also use a full sized cake and use flower-shaped cookie cutters to cut out smaller, floral-themed cakes.  You can then proceed to decorate each flower cake as you please.  Use different colours to help emphasize the design and add little extras like sprinkles if you wish.  Remember, if you aren't much of a baker, you are sure to find some easy cake mixtures at your local supermarket.  Simply mix all of the ingredients, bake in a suitable dish and you are all set!
