DIY Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother's Day is the perfect occasion for us to get creative with our gift ideas.  Sure, choosing to Send Flowers For Mother's Day is traditional and very thoughtful but, how about creating something of your own to accompany the special bouquet?  Whether you are a craft specialist or a DIY disaster, there's guaranteed to be something you will be great at!

There are a number of flower themed gifts that you can make for Mother's Day.  These can either accompany your special flower delivery or be given instead of flowers if you are particularly strapped for cash.  The first way in which you can save money is by creating your very own flower arrangement from flowers in your garden.  Alternatively, you can pick flowers throughout the year and, press them.  Then, when Mother's Day arrives, you can use these perfectly pressed flowers to make your very own Mother's Day card, decorative place mats or perhaps even arrange them on a colourful background and have them framed.

It is important to remember that some flowers are suitable for pressing while others are better left to dry without pressing.  Again, throughout the year, you can gather and dry flowers to build up a collection. Store them in a cool, dry place just as you would pressed flowers.  This will help keep them in perfect condition for a fair amount of time.  When you have enough petals, you can go shopping for some essential oils and make your own potourri.  Remember, different essential oils have different health benefits and effects so find the ones that will suit mum best.  You don't need to stick to a single oil.  You can mix some together for a delightful blend.  There are various recipes available online if you need ideas.  Another great tip to remember is that rose petals make great potpouri.  They do take time to dry out but the really absorb the oil and last long too.

Another great option for all those mums with a sweet tooth is an edible arrangement.  An edible arrangement that you find at your local or online florist may consist of fruits or cleverly wrapped chocolates.  You don't need to feel limited by this and you can really let your imagination run wild.  Take your pick of cakes, biscuits or even brownies to make your own delicious arrangement.  You can also use a full sized cake and use flower-shaped cookie cutters to cut out smaller, floral-themed cakes.  You can then proceed to decorate each flower cake as you please.  Use different colours to help emphasize the design and add little extras like sprinkles if you wish.  Remember, if you aren't much of a baker, you are sure to find some easy cake mixtures at your local supermarket.  Simply mix all of the ingredients, bake in a suitable dish and you are all set!
